The series The Godmother (A keresztanyu) takes the television viewers to the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, to a small village called Makkosszállás, where nothing is as it first seems. Life in Makkosszállás is only seemingly calm, it is upset by tricky smugglers fiddling cross the border, and by the police and border patrol who try to fend the smugglers off desperately, also by international conflicts of interest. In the beginning, Mama Róza, the leader of the local smuggling mafia, the Godmother, decides on her 69th birthday that she is going to retire within a year, and she is going to give the leadership of her network to whoever is elected to be mayor of Makkosszállás next year.
The family, the village and even the residents from the Ukrainian side start the hustle for the position of mayor, and after a while it is not only about leading the network itself, but another huge business opportunity as well. The threads are getting more more complicated, family members turn against each other, friends become enemies, and it really takes a man to see who can be trusted in these circumstances. This action and thriller enriched comedy ties the viewers down every day with its humorous bits, funny and diverse characters, and with much excitement. And where will it end?
